Why I Still Buy Omron Parts from a Real Distributor, Even When It Costs More

I'll say it plainly: I'd rather pay a 30% markup to an Omron distributor than gamble on an uncertified listing. That opinion didn't come from a textbook. It came from a $7,000 mistake in 2023, when I tried to save $180 on twenty switches.

In my role, I coordinate emergency replacements for industrial refrigeration and HVAC controls. When a line goes down, I don't have weeks to wait. I have hours—or a few days at best. That changes how you think about suppliers. The cheapest part is only cheap if it works the first time. If it doesn't, you've just paid for it twice: once in money, once in downtime.

Look, I'm not saying every unauthorized Omron part is junk. I'm saying the cost of being wrong is too high for the savings.
